Position Summary:   

The Middle School and High School 2D, 3D, and Photography Art Assistant supports a comprehensive visual arts program that includes drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, digital art, and photography across grades 6–12. This position provides essential support by preparing materials, organizing studio spaces, managing equipment, and assisting students during hands-on projects. The job is physically demanding and requires regular lifting, setting up classrooms, and cleaning studios. The assistant also manages camera checkout systems, maintains digital/photo equipment, and assists in preparing student work for displays and exhibitions. The incumbent will prioritize, promote, and safeguard the welfare of all ASD students and show commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

              Studio & Material Preparation

  • Prepare, organize, and distribute tools and materials for both high school and middle school 2D/3D lessons, including paints, clay, printmaking plates, drawing supplies, digital tablets, and sculpture tools.
  • Set up and break down workstations for painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and digital art labs in both divisions.
  • Load, unload, and manage drying racks for paintings, prints, and clay projects.
  • Assist with kiln loading, unloading, and basic clay-room operations under teacher supervision.
  • Maintain CRICUT, sewing, and all art-related machines, including tools, supplies, and software updates.

Photography & Digital Equipment Management

  • Manage the checkout system for cameras, lenses, lighting kits, tripods, and accessories used in high school and middle school classes.
  • Check equipment in and out, ensuring items are returned complete and in good working condition.
  • Perform routine equipment checks—verifying batteries, SD cards, chargers, cables, and cleaning supplies.
  • Maintain an organized photography equipment storage system, including labeling, tracking, and periodic inventory checks.
  • Assist students with basic camera setup, tripod use, and proper care and handling of photography equipment.

Classroom Support

  • Assist teachers in supporting students during studio work across grade levels 6–12.
  • Help students locate tools, set up materials safely, and learn responsible studio habits.
  • Supervise students during transitions, breaks, or independent work sessions when assigned.
  • Provide general assistance during demonstrations by preparing tools, distributing supplies, and resetting stations afterward.

Organization & Inventory

  • Keep all art rooms, studios, storage areas, and photo equipment rooms clean, safe, and well organized.
  • Restock and maintain an inventory of supplies, including paper, inks, clay, paints, cameras, SD cards, batteries, glazes, and other essentials.
  • Conduct periodic inventory checks for traditional art supplies and digital/photo equipment.
  • Maintain organized storage systems by labeling, tracking tools, and rotating supplies.
  • Deliver and collect student artwork between classrooms; assist in maintaining portfolios and storage areas.

Displays, Photography, & Exhibitions

  • Photograph student artwork for documentation, digital portfolios, and displays.
  • Mount, mat, frame, label, and prepare artwork from high school and middle school students for exhibitions.
  • Create and install hallway displays, bulletin boards, and digital showcases of student work.
  • Support the setup and teardown of school art shows and end-of-year exhibitions.
  • Create posters, labels, and name tags to accompany student artwork on display

Digital Tasks

  • Upload, format, and print photos or student artwork using Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and ProCreate.
  • Assist in creating digital templates, flyers, posters, signs, and example projects.
  • Help with basic troubleshooting on student devices (e.g., file transfers, printing issues).
  • Fill out local purchase orders for division-wide art and photography supplies.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the middle and high school art programs.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • High school diploma or current enrollment, as required by the school's hiring policies.
  • Experience working with children, teens, or creative/art environments is helpful.
  • Comfortable using computers and basic digital art tools; photography experience is a plus.
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Experience in multicultural or international school settings is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teachers and students in grades 6–12.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills in fast-paced studio environments.
  • Positive communication skills and the ability to support students clearly, kindly, and professionally.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete tasks accurately.
  • Flexibility to adapt quickly as class needs and schedules change.
  • Strong attention to detail in materials preparation, equipment maintenance, and display setup.
  • Competent computer skills and comfort with school platforms (Mac or PC).
  • Ability to lift 50-pound boxes of clay or equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and safely handle overhead storage tasks.

Required Documents:

  • Local hire work permit.
  • Authenticated education documents.
  • International background check. 

Desirable skills:

  • Previous experience working in an educational or laboratory environment.
  • Experience in an international school setting is a distinct advantage.
  • Read, write, and speak Arabic.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Work typically takes place in a normal office environment requiring:

  • Operating a PC or Apple MacBook and other office equipment.
  • Lifting and handling moderate-weight materials and supplies as needed.
