Position Summary:
In coordination with various departments/divisions, the Head Nurse oversees the function of the nursing office and nursing staff by promoting health and safety, including actual and potential health problem intervention; case management services; records and database maintenance and as time permits, explores partnerships within ASD and externally to enhance health resources to students and staff. The appointee will play an active role in supporting matters of child protection and student safeguarding across the school. The incumbent will prioritize, promote and safeguard the welfare of all ASD students and show commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in the establishment, review and implementation of school health services, policies and procedures and streamline resources in order to increase efficiency in dealing with health concerns and wellness promotion.
- Supports matters of child protection and student safeguarding across the school in partnership with divisional principals, including presenting the ASD Intimate Care Policy to all faculty annually.
- Provide oversight of the nursing office, as well as health counseling and education for students, parents, faculty and staff members (e.g. diabetes, allergies, epilepsy, asthma, ADHD and other serious medical concerns).
- Evaluate the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of student treatment plans to determine adequacy and/or need for modification to prevent illness or injury.
- Coordinate with the Physical Education Department and other Faculty, Counselors, Aquatics, and Security to ensure that collaborative and comprehensive student health and safety plans exist.
- Provide health services to students and staff on campus including:
- First aid and emergency treatment
- Manage and coordinate annual student health screenings as appropriate.
- Provide health screening for specific students at the request of teachers or parents.
- Strive to obtain accurate and current immunization records for every student.
- Administer daily and as-needed meds per doctor’s orders and parental consent.
- Follow up on students who are absent due to illness (as per the request of teachers or administration).
- Oversee the maintenance of nursing equipment and supplies.
- Oversee maintenance of all school AED units on campus and at AFG7, including monitoring expiration dates and part orders, supporting campus emergency preparedness efforts.
- Documentation of student/staff/visitor health visits, treatments, and maintain appropriate record keeping (injury/incident reports, referrals), as well as medical records for all students.
- Coordinate with Athletic Department, HOD’s or team leaders (as appropriate):
- To ensure first aid coverage for sports tournaments and field trips.
- To obtain list of medical concerns of visiting MESAC athletes and first aid coverage for it.
- To keep current the certification of the faculty and staff with first aid/CPR.
- Liaise with faculty for supplementation and support of health education classes as needed.
- Evaluate, maintain, initiate and implement nursing guidelines as needed.
- Coordinate with team leaders for the Week Without Walls and service trips for preparation of the medical and nursing needs for the trips.
- Communicate with the Director of Admissions for new admissions to ensure medical data is current and closing of files for withdrawing and senior students.
- Maintain and keep current the standards of practice as required for accreditation.
- Maintain close communication with the principals, counselors, teachers and parents as necessary on student health matters
- Keep an updated list of recommended practitioners and resources for referral purposes.
- Maintain an accurate database of students with life-threatening medical conditions or disabilities needing particular attention, and communicate necessary vital information to appropriate personnel.
- Act as the school representative for the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) maintaining awareness of health regulations, programs and services of the MOPH, CDC, WHO and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- Maintain the standards required by MOPH (Ministry of Public Health) for the clinic’s MOPH license to ensure renewal is obtained as and when required.
- Schedule nurses and clinic assistants to provide adequate coverage in both clinics.
- Evaluate full-time nurses and provide constructive feedback to improve health services.
- Recruit and interview substitute nurses for the Nurse Sub pool.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent with five (5) years of relevant supervisory experience, ideally in a school setting.
- In-depth knowledge of nursing best practices with a high degree of professionalism to lead the nursing team.
- Computer literate for both Mac and PC.
- Demonstrate excellent level organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate in team situations.
- Ability to work independently and safeguard confidential information.
- Ability to establish work priorities and manage staff to run a safe and efficient nursing office.
- Ability to act as first responder in medical emergencies.
- Ability to effectively communicate information to staff or the public either in person, over the phone or electronically.
Required Documents:

- Qatari MOPH Registered Nurse License
- Authenticated education degree from country of origin and license required for work permit purposes.

Desirable skills:
- Prior working experience in an education environment.
- Read, write and speak Arabic
